At Vienna English Preschool, children benefit from bright and modern classrooms that provide a safe and stimulating environment for learning. There are three light and airy classrooms with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows enabling the children to enjoy views of the adjacent park in all seasons.
Our classrooms are designed to meet the specific needs of three age-groups:
Yellow Group: For toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years
Green Group: For 3 and 4 year olds
Blue Group: For pre-schoolers aged 5 and 6 years
Each room is equipped with the latest learning materials and a wide range of age-appropriate resources to support children’s learning and development through play. Children in every group have daily access to:
Construction Toys (e.g. building blocks, train tracks, Lego)
Small World Play (e.g. toy animals, dinosaurs, dolls house)
Role Play Area (e.g. kitchen, medical kits, dressing-up, shop)
Sensory Play (e.g. sand tray, playdough, natural materials)
Puzzles and Board Games with an educational focus.
Book Corner including comfortable seating area.
Creative Area (various art materials, tools and equipment)
Our extensive library of English story books and non-fiction titles is constantly updated and renewed by the teachers in response to the children’s interests and forthcoming classroom topics.
At Vienna English Preschool we believe that creative arts are crucial for developing fine motor skills as well as fostering children’s imagination, individuality and self-confidence. Children are given the freedom to experiment with different media and techniques, and our classrooms are stocked with a wide range of high quality art and craft materials.
Seeing their own creations on display gives children enormous pride, and the walls of the kindergarten are always decorated with colourful, inspiring and lively examples of the children’s artworks.
Each classroom has outside doors that open to the “Big Garden”, allowing full access to the extensive gardens and a fully-equipped adventure playground, complete with swings, slides, climbing wall, ropes, balancing beams, sandpits, a hill to clamber up and a tunnel to crawl through!
An additional, covered, play area at the front of the kindergarten provides protection from the elements. Equipped with a play house, climbing and sliding apparatus, and ride-on toys, the “Small Garden” ensures that all of our pupils benefit from outdoor play, twice a day, whatever the weather.
Just next door to our kindergarten we have a newly equipped gymnasium providing 140m² of space for the children to exercise and express themselves through music and movement. Each group has a weekly programme of physical activities in the gym, and this is also where the preschool’s special events and performances take place, including our annual Lantern Celebration and Summer Party. The gym also provides the location for a wide range of extra-curricular activities including art, drama, dance, music and sports classes.
We are very lucky to be surrounded by the River Danube and the “Alte Donau” lake, as well as many beautiful parks along the river bank. Donaupark - with its many outdoor amenities including playgrounds, gardens, woodland, lake and miniature railway – is only a short (traffic-free) walk from the kindergarten, and the perfect place for regular excursions and nature walks with the children.
The close proximity of the U1 (Kaisermühlen) underground line and other public transport links makes it possible for teachers to organise as many exciting outings as possible to nearby museums and other places of interest in Vienna.
Vienna English Preschool is located only a few minutes’ walk from the Vienna International Centre which is home to the United Nations, and lies at the heart of the Donau-City business district and residential development in Vienna’s 22nd district.
There are many schools in the vicinity to choose from when children are ready to move on from VEP, including the Vienna Bilingual School (VBS) “Volkschule Donaucity” which is conveniently situated only a few metres away. Two further VBS schools are situated a short distance away, and the 22nd district is also home to the Vienna International School.
